Homeless in San Diego

San Diego is one of the top ten cities in the United States in terms of homeless people. It is estimated that San Diego has about 8,000 homeless people, and a rate of 288 homeless out of 100,000 residents. These people have very limited access to food and shelter, and as a result of this, many homeless shelters have opened up in downtown San Diego. The shelters have limited food and bread, and need help feeding their residents. Community Cares San Diego has helped bring bread and feed the homeless in the PATH shelters in San Diego. We have worked with 4 homeless shelters: PATH Downtown, The Link, PATH Zephyr, and PATH Apartments Valley Vista

Hospitals during COVID

During the COVID-19 pandemic, hospitals in San Diego were reaching their capacities. Doctors were working very hard, and had many patients to take care of. Many doctors worked long shifts, and had few breaks for food. From the pastries that Panera donated to us, Community Cares brought these treats to various hospitals. We showed our appreciation for the work of the doctors, and brought them pleasant surprises during their shifts. We have donated food to 10 different hospitals and departments: UCSD Hillcrest Anesthesia and ICU, UCSD La Jolla Anesthesia and ICU, Naval Medical Center Nephrology, Scripps Memorial Hospital ICU, Kaiser Permanente Claremont Emergency Department, Kaiser Permanente Claremont ICU, Scripps Memorial Healthcare Providers, and Kaiser Permanente Zion ICU.
